Approaching Zero is a cartoon I created in 2001 when I'd moved to a new state and I needed some friends. Follow the adventures of Divi, Kurtz, Squeak, Finn, and Flo as they navigate the utterly baffling and surreal world of the working poor on the planet Arb (a parallel universe of 21st century America) with some math thrown in for good measure (the square root of 15 joules per second per gallon squared to be exact). I will post a new cartoon every two weeks or so.

The origin of this strip was an article that I read on plant communication. While most of what we understand about plants "talking" to one another is chemical communication, they also emit ultrasonic vibrations that have been described as a "scream". Even though her best friend is a fully verbal angiosperm who may be quite knowledgeable in this area, Squeak's desire for experimentation cannot be suppressed. Flo, on the other hand, is deeply offended by her blatant disregard for privacy.
